I've got a kid who stalls, how can I help her?

It would be a good idea to ask your mentor about one-on-one/ tutoring options (e.g. scaffolding an example activity).

Another idea would be to discuss positive and appropriate classroom management. Imagine what questions you would ask yourself on how to improve engagement during activities. It might be in a learning style that they don't understand, some students need learning that goes beyond pencil and paper (e.g. they could learn through hands-on, auditory, or etc.)

When I was in college, my professor expressed on observing what captures a student's interest (intrinsic motivation). Setting a positive teaching moment about their interest in relation to the activity could be effective. (e.g. using their name in a math problem with their interest [unicorns]: "One sunny day, [student] went into the enchanted forest and found five unicorns. They went deeper into the forest and found seven more unicorns. How many unicorns did [student] see?")

I hope this provides ideas and insight to share with your mentor. Also, I hope that the student you are helping receives a good learning experience too.
