Really Florida....a rant

The world doesn’t have our outbreak numbers, and we can’t follow their reopening plans for schools.

The Netherlands, for example, had 50k cases... but they’re only getting double digit increases per day now. In states like Florida we’re adding 10,000 cases per day. Arizona us ratcheting up by 3500+ per day. It’s insane.

We have to get the outbreak under control or schools are just going to be another massive vector for infection.

Schools here are also very different than many schools abroad. We can’t just teach outside, or open our windows and turn off the AC.

My classroom literally has no windows. It’s a box, in a box, sharing air with all the other classrooms. No natural sunlight, no airflow that isn’t forced in by a recirculating air conditioning system that works building-wide.

My classroom has 30-40 students in it at a time. There isn’t sufficient room for social distancing. We are crammed in there like cord wood. We don’t have other countries small class sizes or flexibility.

Reopening in some states is probably easily possible. Reopening in the most infected states with surging cases is insane.
