He rose to be Lord Commander to... get stabbed by a 10 year old.
He dropped his Lord Commander title to fight Ramsay walking right into the most obvious trap in history to... be bailed by his sister.
He takes a crew to get a wight with the ignorant notion that Cersei would join them only to... have to be saved by Dany.
He plays into another trap by the NK getting lost in the blizzard and taking two dragons off the battle field while almost getting them all killed.
He lumbers towards the NK and gets stuck surrounded by wights to... be saved again by Dany.
Arya bailing him out is the most consistent and realistic thing that could have happened. Jon is a leader. Not a hero.
