Julia Louis-Dreyfus reveals that she has breast cancer

This is tragic. Cancer is always tragic. She mentions having great insurance through her union, but the reality is that her family has exorbitant wealth. Her father is a multi-billionaire. She, herself, has made a fortune in her lifetime. I only point this out because that kind of money goes a long way towards staying alive in this world. It makes me incredibly sad that access to money allows a person a better chance at life. Here in NZ everyone has access to healthcare. As an American, this has been eye-opening to me. Growing up I knew so many people that went without so they could afford healthcare: doctors, hospital, prescriptions. People going without heat in the winter so they could pay their prescriptions. I came from poverty, and we could not afford medical care when it was needed. We went without care, medicine... help. I am not trying to undermine how catastrophic this time must be for her, or say she does not have a right to the best medical care. Her mention of insurance just brings home how great the divide is. So many go without proper preemptive care, diagnosis, and treatment. It shouldn't be this way. Everyone should have an equal right to life.
