I just bought a PS4, and wasted about $500 just to not be able to play F1 2016.

Instead of simply saying "fuck sony", let's try to have a slightly more nuanced point of view. Comtrary to microsoft, sony allows developers to add support for unofficial hardware into the game code. This is why so many wheels are compatible with project cars on PS4 and not on X1, the devs included the drivers for these wheels directly in the game. Basically SMS worked hand in hand with Fanatec to build unofficial PS4 support. However, now Fanatec wants to develop official PS4 hardware, which means they have to buy the sony license and integrate the PS4 security chip to the hardware. But Sony says they can't have it both ways, they either add official support OR keep building unofficial support. This is a pretty obvious business move for sony and fanatec, otherwise there's no incentive to buy the official hardware.

As a reminder, this is exactly why there is no logitech support on PCars on PS4, logitech was already working on official PS4 hardware so they didn't build unofficial support.

I understand your disappointment of course, but as far as consoles go, sony is pretty gracious with unofficial hardware. They just want a piece of the cake when official hardware is developed
