I just started playing career for the first time ever. I'm a veteran player, but I'm not sure how to advance from where I'm at now.

Are you have specific problems?

General strategy..

  • Building Upgrade Order: 1. Tracking Center, 2. Mission Control, (Tracking Center + Mission Control together unlock maneuver nodes.), 3. Launch Pad (18t limit is limiting, make sure you have launch clamps first, the 2nd pad is sticky)
  • Go unmanned until tier2 R&D. It's cheaper, and you don't have to recover anything. These crafts are lighter too, so the 18t limit isn't such a bother. You can build 8k+ delta-v crafts without updating the launch pad.
  • After you've built up some funds, then take the funds to science strategy up to 25% (I go with 20%). You'll make tons of science by just doing contracts. You can effectively complete the whole science tree with just the thermometer and this strategy.
  • Do 3+ contracts at once. It's easy enough to do.
  • Decline the bad contracts and you'll get new ones. If they're all bad, then timewarp a few days.
  • Reputation is what'll get you better missions, so do some high profile contracts if you're bored of the current set. To some extent your researched tech influences contracts as well, so you'll get better contracts the more you unlock.
  • The place satellite missions are great. You have to launch a new craft, but that craft can complete multiple satellite contracts. Just get it in position for 10seconds to complete, and move onto the next orbit.
  • Go to Minmus. Snag 2 or 3 of the temperature scan missions. Pack 2k extra delta-v and you'll be able to do a few sets of these. You can do these with low flying probes.
  • The crew report missions suck because you have to land typically.
  • You can preview contracts in the tracking center, so make sure its not something ridiculous.
  • Don't pickup the Mun contract until you're ready to go to Eve/Duna. It's a scripted contract so it won't expire, but it's also a blocker for other contracts.
  • Don't do anything inside Kerbin's atmosphere, the cost vs reward is low. It's a good way to run out of funds.
