Just started the show, new to the subreddit - did any other readers of the books find the first scene supremely offputting?

Have YOU read the Silmarillion?

Feanor was manipulated by Melkor, constantly being told his half-brother was plotting to overthrow him and planning on stealing the realm’s most valuable items (the Silmarils). Feanor’s father was the first person to be murdered, by Melkor. Melkor then stole Feanor’s Silmarils. The Valar refused to help him get them back on hold Melkor to account for murdering his father.

Feanor wasn’t a dick just for the sake of being a dick. He was literally manipulated into a lot of the actions you’re talking about.

The children who bully Galadriel were certainly not manipulated by Melkor. They were just dicks for no reason. That’s why so many people (especially those who have actually read The Silmarillion) found this scene so jarring.

Don’t act condescending when it seems you’ve barely got a grasp on what happened in The Silmarillion and why those events happened.
