I Was Just Told by RBC Only Mothers Can Setup RESPs for Their Children. How is This Sexist Policy Allowed in Canada?

I brought a measly $70 GST cheque into RBC to get cashed when I didn't have a bank account. It specifically says on the cheque that I do NOT need an account and they can NOT charge anything for cashing it.

The lady grilled me over opening an account when I said I didn't want one, required not only my photo ID, but my BIRTH CERTIFICATE and a piece of mail with my name on it, and then proceeded to take a 10 minute phone call to make sure my cheque wasn't fake.

Wouldn't be surprised if she had fraudulently opened an account in my name like Wells Fargo was caught doing a while back. She REALLY wanted me to open an account there and was visibly upset when I said "no, just please cash my cheque."
