Kaz, Huey and Ocelot represent Venom's emotions

Same. I remember being slightly disappointed during this thinking we were missing out on a lot of crucial development. Snake rebuilding himself is what we signed up for! Instead: magic injection, robot arm and a pat on the bum and off you go you legend you.

I was still too psyched about the game to let it get me down though.

Then I got to Africa and began to have this nagging feeling in my mind that none of the missions had really anything to do with story at all. They were just gameplay scenarios with Miller spitting out some exposition at the end to make it feel like it mattered. I was still pretty psyched but I became nervous.

It wasn't till I rescued Code Talker and learned about the Zombie Word Flu that I realized how poorly made this game was and everything came crashing down. There was no turning back. I was playing a great game with a turd of a story.

By the time I got to the Man on Fire getting wheeled over, Skullface's incredibly stupid plan, the awkward car ride and Eli being brought along for Mission random-Emergency-Babysitting by THE GREATEST MERCENARIES ON THE PLANET from which Eli escaped from THE GREATEST MERCENARIES ON THE PLANET and did so apparently because he has the genes of a great soldier but none of the experience, training or skills so no that doesn't make any sense how he managed to get away from THE GREATEST MERCENARIES ON THE PLANET while being dragged out to the final mission for absolutely no reason whatsoever, I realized Kojima had f*cked it all up and this would be hilarious if it wasn't all so tragic.

Then Chapter 2 started with that 'Here's to come' sequence and my hopes briefly fluttered.

Then I played Chapter 2 and realized Kojima wasn't just a shit writer, he was a retarded writer.
