In general, I think it’s always a good enough plan to get: DELL XPS (Windows OS) MacBook Pro (Mac OS)

Either of these laptops would get you through Cal Poly in terms of performance. I’m pretty sure the Architecture program at Cal Poly in particular recommends that you get a Mac because the professors expect you to run programs that are optimized for the Mac OS, but there is no need for a Mac because these programs still run on Windows (just not as optimized).

I suppose you get to make the decision at the end of the day, and neither decision would be bad. I recommend you get what the department recommends: the newest (or at least 2018+) MacBook Pro.
