The Last of Us HBO S01E09 - "Look for the Light" Post-Episode Discussion Thread

Ok bro, are you reading off a script or what? You are repeating the same shit that everyone who disliked this episode is saying but with no elaboration. If you think the beginning was forced exposition and drawn out then what would you have filled that time with? You don’t want to see Joel and Ellie having conversations and bonding? It was basically 1:1 with the game what more could you have wanted? Did you want them to break pacing with a random infected fight? What did you want them to do with the first half of the episode since you think it was too much forced talking? You also say the second half was rushed, I’m wondering why if you weren’t happy with the beginning and the dialogue what would you want them to do with the second half? Spend 45 minutes on Joel murdering people at the hospital? Don’t you think that would’ve made the episode a grind fest? Would you have added more dialogue? You already said you thought the dialogue at the beginning was forced. What would you have done with that time? To me that part of the game was very fast paced. It felt 1:1 to me so I don’t understand what they could’ve added or changed in the end or the beginning to make you happy. How can you say it’s like a The Walking Dead episode? Are you saying that every time characters in a show have convos and bonding it’s suddenly turning into The Walking Dead?

This show might be considered similar to The Walking Dead if they had Ellie and Joel just talking and looking for supplies, etc for multiple episodes. That’s not exciting tho. We all know that’s not moving the story along so you’re right we don’t want that but that’s not what’s happening. The Walking Dead and The Last of Us are very different shows. The Last of Us will never turn into The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead is more like a soap opera than anything. The Last of Us is a story oriented show that needs to keep the story moving. This isn’t a show like The Walking Dead or Grey’s Anatomy where you follow a group of characters and they talk and do daily stuff for three episodes. This is The Last of Us where the story is changing every second.

You want to split this finale up into 2 episodes but yet you say you are already upset with pacing so what would you fill that time with? You didn’t like the Joel and Ellie dialogue so what would you fill it with? Just write me a script of how you would’ve written the last episode or how you want it the last 2 episodes. I’ll wait.

I don’t know how you can say it wasn’t organic because that episode felt pretty fucking real to me.

They are hitting the video game beats but in my opinion it’s more emotional. This isn’t a video game so I don’t know what you expected, this is a TV show and it’s written different. I’m not a writer but you sure as hell ain’t one and the world is better for it. I don’t know what you want or expected for this show but clearly you had your head in a different space.
