Legal Guidance on Assault Charges I received

Thank you for your advice. From what I understand is I can go to the court and plead my case. Tell them my side of the story and then ask them for deferred disposition. I am willing to do what it takes to get this off my record like anger management or alcohol awareness courses.

Even though he was the aggressor, tried to hit a female, and was extremely intoxicated. I was drinking, I may have reacted too quickly, however I only it him once and walked away. I did not go to the ground and start attacking him. I understood at the time when someone is on the ground the fight is over. I also was raised that a man should never try to lay hands on a women. Even though I do not recall the exact events of the altercation I do remember that he approached us from behind, tried to hit someone, was hit in the face with something (reference to the girls head hitting me), and hit back one time. The party that took his side was bachelorette party and they were all drunk. The girl that was with me was not drunk as she was our driver.

Even with all this information could it be a situation where a judge looks at it and says two drunk parties, no video evidence. Not Guilty. Or a separate situation where I go in tell my side and ask them for options to remove or seal this on my record since it is such a haze of events for both parties.

I also don't know why the charge would be dropped. After the detectives approached him he agreed to drop the charges to a Class C. I don't know if this is a common occurrence or if he is worried that charges could be filed against him for trying to hit a female in a parking lot.

Any insight would be helpful. I appreciate your response from earlier. It was straight forward and helpful.
