Let's Talk About Codex Alera

The series is horrible...It had just about everything I despise in a fantasy novel.

Just a few thoughts

1) Because the way the series is named, you know Tavi will make it to the end...he is in absolutely no danger.
2)he really loves his characters, not a single one of the good guys actually dies...
3)Tavi is some kind of genius, He invented a huge magnifying glass attack killing thousands(and of course, nobody ever talked about it or used it again) . He is the only one in thousands of years to realize that salt arrows are useful, He is weak in the beginning, the weakest character in the books...but don't worry! Soon he will be the strongest, out "power leveling "everyone...and this is just the shit I remember.
4)As someone who understands warfare, at least the most simple stuff from documentaries and video games, just about every commander in this series is an idiot. Of course, the prize goes to the Zerg. If you replace the queen with a 12 year old child, you spend one week teaching him about warfare,he would make better decisions than her. I'm not talking about the whole "oh no,I'm corrupted by humanity"whatever, but about her tactics. She was in an unbeatable position yet she fucked it up somehow...

Of course, these are just typical examples. I understand, just how somebody else said , it's supposed to be a fun/light read (I'm not criticizing it for that ) ...still you I need to see some internal consistency ,something interesting, a coherent plot...I found none.

Also, on a final note, I don't like it when the author has an agenda. This book many "strong" female characters that where added for marketing reasons and where poorly written. Same goes for men,but I got the feeling the author wanted to make a point, when I read passages like that Hillary quote "Women are the true victims of war, they loose husbands and children" ( something like that) it just left a bad taste in my mouth, It was the point I almost put down the series...

Luckily, I didn't , so I was able to read probably one of the most disappointing climaxes ever. It surely takes talent, I can't think of a series with a weaker and more disappointing ending than this one.

I am currently reading banned and the banished,by Clemens, it might just dethrone codex alera...who knows.
