Here is a link To a recording of our full circuit of Linville Gorge. We didn't cross at the mid-point but instead closed the loop.

The West side followed the river and the East side hiked along the ridge.

We crossed at ankle deep water on the South end, and at the North we passed the visitor center and had to bushwhack through some unofficial trails. Probably the hardest place to navigate I've done. But having a GPS track of a verified route would probably be helpful.
