Long Time Lurker Here (My Two cents)

I loved your write up dude. I'm the guy you quoted at the top. If I may respond to your point though, I think there's a bit of a difference between Batman v Superman, and other films that have been an exception to the rule of Bad Review = Bad Box Office.

So I'll go with the most obvious example. The Transformers Series. They get murdered by critics, and yet they continue to be big box office successes. I think the thing we have to acknowledge here is that Transformers is a much different movie from BvS, in the sense that Transformers is a typical popcorn crowd pleasing movie. It's simple, doesn't require much thought, has a light tone, and is family friendly (for the most part). Batman v Superman on the other hand is a lot darker, more serious, and very ambitious in it's risk taking. Not to mention taking characters in controversial directions that some audiences are not used to. That sort of thing isn't as easily approachable as watching a movie with big stars (Marky Mark), hot women, humor, and big action setpieces and explosions.

Will Batman v Superman be a box office success? Yes of course it will. It will most definitely have a big opening weekend. But at the same time we are talking about the most historical CMB to date. A movie that finally unites the two most iconic and popular superheroes in the world, as well as the first big screen debut of the most iconic female superhero. So while $800mil World Wide is technically a success, a movie like this really should be able to clear $1 billion. Especially considering the last two Batman films did. I'm not saying the film won't cross $1 billion. It might, it might not. But what I'm saying is that I'm having serious doubts this film is going to have strong legs. I think there's going to be a lot of audiences out there, parents especially, who are gonna find this film hard to swallow.

Whether we like it or not, reviews can potentially alter a film's box office potential. We've seen it before. Do you honestly think Deadpool would've done as well as it did, if it had a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes? Granted it had amazing marketing, and probably would've done very well OW. But $135 million OW for an R-rated film is INSANE. So reviews do matter.
