Lord Byron - "Darkness" (1816)

i read this in the introduction to edward young's Night Thoughts

And had this been all — had Young continued to pursue such an even, equable course — he had been by this time well-nigh forgotten; for we do not think that either his satires or plays would of themselves have preserved his name. But it was decreed that grief should co-operate with disappointment in unfolding the full riches of his mind.

which i found kind of amusing lol. but i dont disbelieve it. his Poem (very long and divided into 9 nights) was really famous all over europe, even though now its not talked about much. he wrote it in his 60's after some ppl he loved had passed away. it was also really original for the time, written before bryon and the romantics, and before blank verse was more common.

the introduction says

Young’s imagery is distinguished by its richness, originality, and exceeding boldness. It was verily a new thing in that timid and conventional age.

i kinda want to post it to here. the first night i put here with some prats from the introduction (u can actually hardly find it online published anywhere in a nice looking way :/ )
