You're talking out your arse. CSIRO are not fucking patent trolls.
They have pivoted to what patent-trolling is evolving into.
Maybe they do a lot of valuable research, I wouldn't know. Generally, it's possible to get a bunch of academics in a building working on problems that seem interesting, but might not make a big dent in actual metrics that matter to industry and the environment.
For carbon fiber specifically, this is my response:
They are using wet spinning, which is the standard technology, but what I found after some digging is that they are focused on a different method of wet spinning called RAFT. Tons of people all over the world are researching this, and given that they haven't published any actual data on new fibers, I'm highly skeptical that they have made a breakthrough. There is tons of prior art on this stuff that they might manage to patent because it was held as trade secret, but that doesn't mean they are increasing adoption of the technology.
When you wet spin carbon fiber it's challenging to make any improvements that are not incremental since there is a trade-off between fiber strength and stiffness.
