The media is perpetuating hysteria. I've read the Executive Order and from my research I've compiled a list of fact checks over the last few hours.

i just happen to have it in my clipboard:

Now that the dust has settled and I've done my research, I'm ready to break it down for you. 1. There are 7 countries with a predominantly Muslim majority that have been banned from entering the US for 90 days. Only one country was called out by name in the Executive Order, Syria. 2. The 6 other countries were countries Obama's administration had singled out in the 'Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015'. In this Act, Obama stopped the Visa Waiver Program (i.e letting people enter the US without vetting) of “Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Somalia or Yemen" after extensive research and determination that those countries posed a dangerous threat to the US. They were specifically listed because of the increased terrorist attacks in those regions and because ISIS have infiltrated those countries. President Trump just used the same list and implemented a TEMPORARY ban on these countries to revamp their vetting procedures. 3. "WHY NOT SAUDI ARABIA AND PAKISTAN? MUST BE BECAUSE OF HIS BUSINESS TIES!!!!" Uh, no. President Trump only chose these countries for now because they were already approved by Congress and if you haven't been paying attention, he likes to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later. He's working within the existing framework of the law. It is explicitly stated in the Executive Order (which I will link in the comments) that "(f) At any point after submitting the list described in subsection (e) of this section, the Secretary of State or the Secretary of Homeland Security may submit to the President the names of any additional countries recommended for similar treatment." As in, if the DHS conclude that Saudi Arabia fits the bill, it'll go to congress and they'll be added on the list too. 4. "A NEW YORK FEDERAL JUDGE STRUCK DOWN THE EXECUTIVE ORDER AND PEOPLE CAN ENTER AMERICA NOW" ...no again. The judge simply ruled that individuals who have been detained at airports in all of this confusion will be allowed to be released from the airport and go to their desired location. To me, this ruling was kind of unnecessary because the executive order already states in Section 5 part (e) that individuals who are in transit whose detainment would pose "undue hardship" would be exempt and can enter the US. 5. "WHAT ABOUT THE LEGAL GREEN CARD HOLDERS??" I got worried about this part too. So apparently, since it wasn't explicitly stated that Green Card Holders would be exempt from the law, interpretations were all over the place. When asked Friday night, the Dep. of Homeland Security (which the E.O gave authority to decide things) said that Greed Card Holders are not included in the new law so they could enter the US. But freaking White House staff, Steve Bannon and Steve Miller opened their mouths and said "nooo everybody is banned". That led to confusion and hysteria. Because, if these people reside in the US, where else are they supposed to go for 90 days?? Will they lose their jobs?? Etc. etc. So I blame Bannon for this egregious mistake. Now, however, it has been decided that Green Card Holders can enter the States, but they will have to undergo some additional screening to make sure they aren't a threat to the nation (like a face-to-face interview either in the other country or at the airport when they land). 6. "IF HE WANTS TO PRIORITIZE CHRISTIAN REFUGEES ISN'T IT DISCRIMINATION" Firstly, there's no mention of "Christian" any where in the executive order. It states in section 5 part (b), "prioritize refugee claims made by individuals on the basis of religious-based persecution, provided that the religion of the individual is a minority religion in the individual’s country of nationality." So in other words, these people are asylum seekers. Asylum seekers are not refugees or everyday travelers and they go through a different screening process all together. These people can include Christians, Yazidis, Shias in a Sunnis majority nation, Sunnis in a Shia majority nation etc. (Also important to note, in the total number of Syrian refugees that the US has taken in, 13,100 were Muslims and only 77 were Christian). OKAY, so those are the only points I can think of right now. If you have any questions, please feel free to comment. Once again, please don't get caught up by hysteria and look at the facts. (I will be posting all of my sources in the comments).
