MEGA-THREAD: FEAR INOCULUM (ALBUM)

I think where I've landed on this is that we're 25 years on from Aenima and almost 20 years on from Lateralus.

They've changed in their approach, their methods, their interests and styles. Like we all have over the journey.

The grit of Undertow/Aenima has been done. It's on those albums. If you want to listen to gritty Tool, listen to these.

The mathematic prog rock of Lateralus has been done. If you want that Tool, listen to that album.

I started Fear Innoculum wanting a sequel to Aenima. I wanted catchy bass riffs, insane polyrythmic drum lines with wicked solos, eerie guitars and Maynard pulling the finger at America and pop-culture.

It's not what we got. We got something new instead.

This is Tool evolved. It's new, it's different from all other albums. But it's still inherently Tool.

I'm not saying I wouldn't have liked to hear MJK sing a bit more, or show a bit more grit. I'm just saying he's done that already, and if you want that you can quite happily go and listen to those other albums.
