"Mesi" smoothly spinning an RSVP MX pen.

You're still missing my point. It's not harder because it can't recreate combos done on balanced mods. Recreating the combos done on an unbalanced mod would be just as difficult using a balanced mod. The two are different. Spinning one over the other isn't harder and it isn't easier. It's hard to compare the two through combos because each variant has it's own combos that it excels at.

They both can do different things better than the other. Putting this all back into what I originally said. Smoothness isn't really affected by using an unbalanced mod. It's just a different set of tricks.

Balanced mods are in fact easier to spin like you said but only for balanced tricks. There are plenty of tricks such as wipers that are impossible to do in some starting positions unless you have an unbalanced mod.

As for recreating tricks, it's simple. The pen spinning community is great but it's not that big of a community. Many more people spin balanced mods than unbalanced mods which will inevitably lead to more spinners using balanced mods to be at the top.
