Meta: Do any other Southerners feel like they spend more time debunking false stereotypes then actually answering questions?

I'm not surprised there's an overlapping user base between 2 subreddits that are based on an interest in Americans and the ways they differ from other people. I'm one of the people that enjoys both subreddits, and I'd think most of us are distinctly pro-American.

I like America, I like Americans, I'm interested in the country and especially in the ways you differ from me. I'd love to live there one day and might have gone already if I weren't in a relationship.

That doesn't prevent me from regularly submitting SAS. I post stuff like this, this, this, or this. I'm more irreverent there and certainly harsher and more depricating in my humour, but that's mostly because I feel that won't get misunderstood as easily. It's just more British in style, it's considered funny to talk negatively about everything and anything and sarcasm and negative hyperbole appears to be much more frequent. I know it isn't always understood in that manner by Americans which is why I alter my tone not just here but frankly on the rest of Reddit.

Sure, a subreddit of 25k subscribers (double the size of this one) attracts some trolls and haters too, and sometimes those trolls post here too. I just don't think it's appropriate to stereotype all of their subscribers as anti-American trolls based on a few bad apples. I don't consider my participation in both subreddits contradictory, I like Americans and enjoy both talking with you and about you.
