Those sound so ridiculous and one-sided that I'm having a hard time taking them seriously, but if that truly is the case, then yeah, that's awful.

But I guess those scenarios would really just be confirmation of what we all know (and has been very apparent this year) -- school is glorified daycare, for many.

Being in the public sector, the reason police unions are able to make their members untouchable is because "soft on crime" has been a death sentence in politics since the 60s. So, if teachers unions (as another public sector union) are unable to get basic educational standards baked into law, it's an unfortunate reflection of what we value in society, at a political level.
