Miyamoto says Nintendo is keeping quiet on NX due to a certain "idea"

IMO, VR is just tech that's over hyped and won't last all that long. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but here are my thoughts:

  • If we're talking about real VR here, meaning movement included (think Vive), there are only so many ideas you can implement with it. First of all you have to dedicate a space to use it. This isn't like motion controls where you can see what's in front of you. Having a room with that much free space isn't something that many people have.

  • With real VR, you can't walk that far and it's very jarring. It might not seem like an issue now, but it will after some use with it. You can move around inside an area which is essentially as large as your entertainment room, but how do you move farther? This limits you to games where you just stay in one spot or games that have you teleport around. I've seen the teleporting feature in action, and let's just say it's not very immersive... There are only so many games that will be able to pull that off.

  • If you're just talking about the mask while you use a controller in your hand to play the game, this has been known to hurt your eyes or cause sickness. From what I've heard it just doesn't work well because of how your eyes are processing what's in front of you, while your hands are controlling what you actually see.

  • The price isn't acceptable for the majority of casual gamers.

My thoughts are that everyone will think VR is super cool for 3ish years. After that only a handful of games will be made that are dedicated to VR, and only serious PC gamers will have one. I think it's wise for Nintendo to ignore this phase, but I suppose time will tell.
