Morbidly obese people of Reddit, how do you afford all the food you eat?

Hi. PSA for all of the comments that say "I'm fat but i don't eat much" or "my condition makes me fat". The truth is it is just fatlogic, aka bullshit. Before you downvote me out of anger. I will explain in detail why. If you want me to source anything, or you want to debate me, then reply below.

1.) Hypothyroidism. Aka slow metabolism. If you truly have this disease, then you are living a living hell. Your legs feel like jelly, your hair is brittle/falling out, your skin is clammy, your dizzy, your tired, your really depressed, you are always hungry and your cold. However, once you go to the doctor and take a blood test, you immediately get put on synthriod. You probably drop whatever weight you gained, but your health improves dramatically.

However, if you haven't been diagnosed, chances are you don't have it or its sub clinical. If you don't have it or it's sub-clinical. Then it really wont effect your weight very much. Doctors will tell this to you if you ask them. There is a reason why their is a limit to when they start prescribing synthriod.

Finally, a subreddit to go to is /r/hypothyroid

2.) PCOS. This disorder happens in biological women only as it has to do with male antigens effecting how the egg cells ovulate. Usually, it causes irregular periods, intense hunger, mood swings/anxiety, and weight gain in the stomach area. It is caused by a insulin desensitivity. Common treatments include metaformin (a diabetes drug), birth control, avoiding extra sugars/carbs and losing weight. While the anxiety and rises in appetite make sticking to a healthy lifestyle particularly difficult, it is still something that is beatable.

3.) Pregnancy. Most pregnancy weight gain isn't fat gain, but some of it is. If you eat for two, or you eat more junkfood, then you gain extra fat that is harder to lose.

If it's been a few years since your last baby, then theres really no excuse for holding onto that baby weight.

4.) Being poor. Yes, low access to grocery stores and healthy options can led to cheap low volume high calorie density foods making poor people fat. However, there are ways of getting around that.

For one thing, learn to cook. Canned veggies taste gross alone/and 4 tsp of butter pretty much ruins it calorie wise. There are ways you can add veggies to recipes, make them taste good, etc. Also, choose lean meats, whole grains, and low sugar options.

5.) You got injured in some way.

You don't need to exercise to lose weight. Most of the battle is with your diet.

6.) You don't want to change your style of eating and/or your fine with your body imagine.

This is the best reason for being fat and the most honest. If it makes you happy, go for it. Although be aware that it can contribute to health problems down the line.
