Motivation/Beginner Woes

Fine, I'll be the bad guy: "It's not bad, it's unique!" is something you tell a small child who can't be expected to do better. We know full well what she means: most homemade clothing looks amateurish, as in not good. She wants to look good, as generally understood by most people.

Another reply from that thread called this place a hugbox. Mildly ableist language aside, blind positivity stifles growth, it's basically gaslighting out of cowardice. There's plenty of actionable advice on who to watch and what to do to get where she wants to. This ain't it.

I'm sorry to single you out but I'm also very new to this, and this sub is weirdly split between "You'll never be good" and "You can never fail," which leaves frustratingly little room for "How do I get good?"
