My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay [Rock]

These guys were life changing when I discovered them in 7th grade. My sister downloaded the song Teenagers onto iTunes and one day as I was skipping through my songs I heard it and was instantly hooked. As cliche as it is they really did make me (an outcast/depressed kid, how surprising right) feel less alone. I got all of their albums and nearly 6 years later I still think that their first album is one of the best ones I've ever heard. The Black Parade and their last full album Danger Days aren't very good to me anymore, but damn nothing compares to the sheer angst and poetry of the first two especially I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. That album is still incredible, such beautiful lyricism and guitar done by Ray Toro and powerful screams/guitar by Frank Iero. Their drummer was excellent too, and of course Gerard Way was the sexy emo guy who used to really have a powerful voice. Way was in the depths of addiction and depression during that first album but in a weird way I think it is what made it so good. There is just so much raw emotion, literally every song rips at your core and just RULES. MCR also introduced me to The Smiths and Black Flag which were essential bands in discovering genres/bands that I still love today. Watch their documentary "Life on the Murder Scene" it was filmed when their band was still excellent. Sure the quality really went down somewhere around The Black Parade but I have so much to thank this band for, gave me an outlet besides drinking or cutting or any other stupid shit that depressed people do. In them I found a community, a safe place. MCR was my fuckin religion and I will always love that first album and every tshirt of theirs that I own. At least Frank Iero is still around making punk music.
