My wife has been learning to play video games recently. To fix a point of frustration, I made her a diagram under the TV so she didn't have to keep looking down at the controller.

As someone who mainly plays PC games but also has bought every console in the past few generations, I feel her pain.

I have to sticky a note in my FOV with the current button assignment depending on the game, especially as for some reason a lot of controllers are recognized or emulated as Xbox controllers under windows, even when the controller is a pure Windows controller that doesn't have the same symbols as the XB or PS ones do or when playing on a PS controller that works best in a game pretending to be a XB controller.

I've long been an advocate for Microsoft seriously overhauling Mouse and Controller subsystems as to allow more buttons and better standards.

It's ridiculous that you need special drivers, special detection, special games, etc for a mouse with more than 5 buttons to work correctly.

Most games can only understand configuration of basic RMB/MMB/LMB and back/forward configurations.

You need at least manufacturers software to use any more buttons than that and in that case those buttons will be configured as fucked up keyboard inputs.

With how long mice with more than 5 buttons have been around, I do not understand in the slightest why Microsoft doesn't by default allow for MB1-MBInfinity. It's not that damn hard.
