Nearly 200 years ago, Dhaka muslin was the most valuable fabric on the planet. Then it was lost altogether. How did this happen? And can we bring it back?

Great post! I hadn't heard of Dhaka muslin before, so I started digging and came across this story. It ends with the possibility that they may have found the unique cotton species that grew only near Dhaka, but they were waiting on lab confirmation before rolling out "New Age Muslin." It sounds as if they have a pretty solid idea of the process, and there was a muslin expo in 2016 with a lot of the tools and texts describing how it's done. They just needed the super fine cotton with the unique water properties.

Unfortunately they went with "New Age Muslin" and this is the internet age where buzzwords are king. For the life of me I can't figure out how the tests came back because that phrase pulls up nothing but merchants all over the place selling "New Age Muslin" that I'm pretty sure is unrelated to this endeavor to resurrect the cotton plant.

Fascinating and sad story about colonialism and the loss of indigenous skills.
