We need a "Skip Intro" button. That is all.

Yeah it's gonna be a lot more complicated to recognise and act on episode intros that don't always start at the beginning, use the same music, or could be different enough on special episodes to cause an inconsistency.

Or using chapter based skipping (MKVs are good at storing chapter information all in one!)...

But the only TRUE way around that is assuming people use the one copy to stream where the intros/outros are always in the same spot and configuring some time-based markers for all plex instances to leach off.

See, this works for Netflix, because they have these timers configured.. but also provide the content. Which is of course, uniform across all clients because it's all the same single source (Netflix's copies).

I could have an MKV of some show, and you an MP4 from a different rip that cuts out the intro on all episodes except the first and last for example. Then the entire systems fucked.

So the most complicated way to do it but have somewhat good accuracy is to create an algorithm with sample data to capture against per-show and have it dynamically skip intros. Which is hard. It's so not as easy as a paragraph can make it out to be (with 100% / good enough accuracy to not be a problem for people).

But yeah. It'd be ace. Those are all the good possible approaches. But then again, we have that 30s skip button which usually hits intros with a press, two or three.
