Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos Defends Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais Free Speech: “It Used To Be A Very Liberal Issue”

I don't disagree with you at all. I see it happen all the time on this very platform, where people who should be able to see themselves as allies instead choose to bunker down and be dismissive and/or hostile towards anyone who doesn't 100% agree with them.

At the same time, as a middle aged cisgendered white male, I've never been in a position where I've experienced real marginalization. I'm in no place to judge those who have been marginalized and are now feeling empowered to fight back against it. If anything I think that's a good thing, but it's not going to always be comfortable.

Even Mr. Chappelle has to recognize that there was a time in this country when it was perfectly acceptable to make fun of black people for being black, and then came a point where black people empowered to fight back. Its wasn't easy and it wasn't comfortable, but it happened. We evolved and that evolution continues, as bumpy as it may be.

At the end of the day I think we would all be better off if we stopped trying to damn hard to get our opinions heard, and spent a little more time listening to others.
