My glycolic acid toner seems to suddenly be causing a reaction with my skin. It burned a bit more than usual when I applied it last night (and because I missed a day, it had been 3 days since I had last exfoliated my face). The burning started to subside after a minute or two, so I left it on for the full 30 minutes before following up with Niacinamide + Zinc, and then applied a rosewater sheet mask (which I use regularly) to help return some moisture to my skin in case my acid dried me out more than usual. I left the mask on for about an hour with my silicone mask cover to keep it moist, and then went to apply my banana sleeping pack for some extra moisturizing punch.
When I went to apply my sleeping pack, I noticed that my cheeks were very flushed, and I had some lesser redness on the rest of my face, in general. I had also applied some of the toner to my neck and decolletage, and everywhere I applied it in these areas had little red dots, almost like a rash. When I woke up this morning, my cheeks had developed some rash-like texture, as well.
It honestly reminds me of an allergic reaction, though I've been using it for months with no issue. I did do a lot of yard work yesterday afternoon/evening and was sweating profusely, but I oil-cleansed and showered/washed my face with cleanser before applying the toner. I was wearing sunscreen and mostly in the shadow of the house while working outside, also, protected from the sun.
Could sweating more somehow make my skin more sensitive? I can't think of anything else that was different from what I've been doing. Usually I might feel itchy right after using my toner, but I really never feel the burning some people do, and I've certainly never seen my skin have a negative reaction to it! It just gives me a nice glow the next day. Help!
Skin type: Combination with (suspected) mild rosacea on my cheeks, and an oily T-zone. I don't typically break out easily, or react to many products.
