Newb here…How could I make a bench like this?

I rarely see anybody making ornate wooden furniture these days, it's as good as extinct. There's nothing wrong with a simple aesthetic but a thicker top, stouter legs with proper attachment, and a stretcher to connect the legs would do a lot to make this a "real bench".

Since you just learned about pocket screws in this thread it's probably worth pointing out that it's a cheap and cheerful low-skill way to build that's not particularly strong or durable. This bench is gonna have all kinds of flex and wobble even if you incorporate the suggestions you got here to strengthen and stiffen it. You'd probably get a better result just stacking a sheet of plywood on some milk crates and calling it "added storage"
