Next year the Habs should adapt a more efficient two-goalie-system. Carey Price should start every game and be pulled if he lets in two goals. Simply let Jake Allen be responsible for saving the last half of the game.

So I expect you to get a lot of flak for this suggestion and I can’t say it’ll be unwarranted but the comparison you draw between goalies and pitchers is a very interesting one.

From a purely technical standpoint, it is absolutely logical to manage minutes wherever and whenever you can. The issue is that goalies have been conditioned to play full games for as long as they’ve been playing semi-pro/pro. Not to mention how that strategy could absolutely rattle a player’s and a team’s confidence in the order of things.

Maybe the NHL will start going in that direction in the next few years. As far as the Canadiens experimenting with it for this coming season? I don’t think it’s a good idea. Too much riding on the ‘21 season to roll the dice on an unproven strategy. Would be very interesting to see a rebuilding team experiment with that idea though.
