Not to say that all Muslims think this, but here's one’s thoughts on reform.

Paraphrasing countless videos I've watched of Nawaz; he was radicalized because of the ill treatment due to the color of his skin & heritage, not the religion itself.

Islam has always served as a platform for counter-culture in the western world. If you make people feel left out and allow them to get into an identity crisis, they may become radicalized. Even you as an ex-Muslim probably understand the extent of misinformation on Islam (not making an apologists argument or anything), especially off mass media.

imo, Malcolm x for example converted to Islam mostly because it wasn't a "white" religion, if you get me. You have converts all over the west that convert because they hate American-style capitalism or something.

I don't think Nawaz can make an impact outside of England other than reaching out to other semi-westernized Muslims who like British culture. He's British, and he wants to embrace being British, not Pakistani. Europe has tons of xenophobia, and loads of the youth there don't feel Pakistanis are British, which probably played a huge role in his radicalizing.

Even without "Islam", a lot of the then "ex-Muslim" countries would still be fucked. They'd have the acid throwing, honor killings, sexism, FGM, Etc. theyd just be under a different guise In the media.

The problem is the culture of the people, not the culture of the religion. There is collateral for everyone in the religion across the globe because the big time important sheikhs are part of a backward culture. And the argument you have in your head right now, no, seriously it's not just the extreme importance of religion that's making them backwards, it's their backwardness that makes religion important to them; it's a cultural thing.

If sheikhs had to get PhDs in natural sciences, and governments were actually allowed to be sovereign with democratically elected people, the culture of the people will get better and people could move on, but foreign powers don't want that. We're going to see problems our entire lifetime until there is nationalistic cultural movements throughout the Muslim world
