The (not so insane) case for omitting Punkbuster in Battlefield 1

shrug

As someone who has been PC gaming since the 90s, I really do not care either way about PB... Yes a few times over the years it has caused me issues i.e. out of date, or false flagged... but in the thousands of hours of online gaming, its never really detracted from my experience.

I understand what the author is saying and he has some valid points, but also fails to really understand why PB exist and why its still used... MONEY. It is costly to develop and run something like PB, not only do you have to develop and maintain but also the service and support side. EA with Origin being new, it was a smart business plan for them to incorporate PB, saved them money, and if shit hit the fan, they have a perfect fall guy; "Hey sorry everyone, we are working with PB to help them fix the situation but there is nothing else we can do".... had any series issues, hacks, ect.. happened they were covered. So while them using PB was a smart move initially, I feel they do indeed need to be supplying their own protection at this point. EA/Origin is large enough that money is a weak excuse and while initially Origin may have had limited budget, that should no longer be a excuse.

I do feel the author should have maybe gone a little less on about his crying about his account being forever banned by PB... really turns the whole article from valid into a sob story... I also find it hard to believe that PB would not work with him and resolve the issue, it sounds strange and honestly something that can and would be easily worked out.... maybe his account is special and he is the only person who they wont fix. shrug Protect your accounts and you do not have these problems.
