Its not over for terry yet

I looked through those tweets, and he flat out says and insists to everyone asking him about couples without father (lesbians and single mothers) over and over that he meant that everyone needed a male role model (and female one, too) in their lives, be it a coach, uncle, etc. He did keep saying "father" because he's calling those (related or non-related) male figures the "fathers" in their lives. Someone being a "dad" to you, and giving fraternal love or simply being male role model, as he put it.

But... I think that more of the "Terry is being homophobic" ideas came from this tweet.

Again, he answered to others writing about LGBT parents and said that an uncle or coach, etc, could be just as important.
