Why the obsession with “shareholder” capitalism and “supply side economics since the early 1980s?

Realistically it is an incredibly complex system with millions of moving parts. n argument could be made both ways. But, what is the end goal? Is it to push humans to the brink of innovation. Maybe even with the goal of expanding out of our solar system and then continue to innovate? This an an ongoing thing over many, many lifetimes.

Or is the goal to be content with what we have and be able to wake up, drink coffee, go to a sweet, well-paying job for 20 hours a week and come home to relax in a relatively luxurious house with no debt?

Both of those goals I think could be agreed are worth striving for but would need wildly different ideals.

The reality is that we can play the cards we are dealt. If you feel the current progression of the human race is misguided - it is on you to use the system as we know it to find a way to shift that view. Shifting it a little is beneficial (for you) while having the power to shift it greatly is good for everyone (according to you).
