I live in a third world country so I don't HAVE to use a VPN (except for bypassing MEGA download quota) to torrent because the ISPs are pretty chill. But from what I've seen, people in first world countries such as UK, USA and Germany etc receive instant mail from their ISP because companies closely monitor torrents and as soon as someone from above countries connects to the swarm, they contact the ISP and you get a DMCA mail. I would suggest you to use a VPN or a Debrid service to download torrents. You can get VPNs with trial re-setters (e.g Freedome VPN) and get infinite 5 day trials to download whatever your heart desires. Although I would recommend you to buy a trusted VPN such as Nord or PIA for very cheap and torrent away without worrying about a lawsuit. If you do get a VPN, make sure to enable killswitch in VPN settings to ensure that your IP address isn't leaked. Hope it helps.
