Once Brothers (2010) - Two NBA Players on different sides of the Yugoslavian Civil War. Great Persona/Historical Documentary

Slovenia used to be the little Germany of Yugoslavia is now a infested hive of the most corrupt sacks of shit you could find, the quality of life has gone down drastically and the economy is in shit and the same people who were in charge of Slovenia during Yugoslavian times are in charge still today. Slovenia was always better off during Yugoslav years but in it's 10 year independence it experienced which sadly were completely destroyed in the next 10 years (2000 onwards) the education system is buckling, implemented restrictive and suffocating laws to it's economy and legalized lobbying which has created a safe haven for the most corrupt scum possible. National companies which were profitable for so long are now failing and are being sold off with money never making it to the national treasury, companies that were proffitable suddenly plunge into depression and are being sold of, there is not 1 national company in Slovenia right now not involved in some kind of corrupt scandal. Our Prime minister was jailed, his friends in government got him acquitted (sort-off) and they put him on the comity to judge him self if he was guilty or not he basically is part of comity where most of other members are his party members or are allied. Basically he is judge to him self.

Croatia is the same as Slovenia only worse off due to the longer war, still very ultra-nationalist and is slowly self killing it's industry especially it's tourism industry because of it. They have rampant corruption in government which has pretty much forgotten about countries war veterans and is treating them as garbage these days. For some reason instead of upholding it's bond of friendship with Slovenia it's tarnishing it over a house, one nationalist crazy man living in that house and some fish in adriatic sea. But this is the two sided problem. They have completely failed their education and social systems.

Bosnia is the worst off which is sad because they used to be the least nationalistic of all member states. Bosnia used to be an industrial powerhouse on top of my head I can think of three companies in 20km span Maglaj, Zepce, Zenica that employed some 150k people at their prime time. They ended up in the middle between Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia and suffered the most of all 3 states. And in a sense they are still better off as a nation than Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia because at least they still have some sort of national identity where in Slovenia,Croatia and Serbia ultra-nationalism is still a thing in Bosnia is seems to have toned down so much that the country seems like one nation could almost do away with the triangle on the flag this has never been more clear than when Bosnia experienced the massive flooding recently. But the scars of war can be seen everywhere second you enter Slavonski or Bosanski brod whichever you prefer and all the way to Sarajevo. Tho Bosnia in it's own way is hauntingly beautiful country even when you visit the saddest places. But Bosnia is slowly recovering in the last 20 years I have been visiting it has been just amazing of what has changed. Tho it's not without it's share of corruption especially when related to it's Police and Social services people who visit Bosnia will understand the "give the cop 10 euros to not pay the 50 euros ticket, or bring a gift to public workers to have your shit actually done or done faster".

Serbia for all it's disliking for former Yugoslav states it feels very Croatia & Slovenia like. But somehow ended up being worse off than the two. On par with Croatia as far as ultra-nationalism goes, ended up with a poor economy, bad educational system (which is a shame because Serbia used to produced some of the best engineers and scientists world had to offer), completely broken social/public service system something akin to Bosnia in regards to this. But is picking it self up slowly tho it's ties with Russia have done her more bad than good.

All in all in a big picture former Yugoslavian states look pretty good but live in any of them or if you have family or friends in any of them and you will quickly see the harsh reality of Yugoslavian war. If it had not happened Yougoslavia would have been a regional superpower today. In it's day and at it's prime Yugoslavia was an economic, industrial and military superpower one that would rival UK, France, Germany and the like today. It got there by some very sad and corrupt and repressive ways. I can't talk of how Yugoslavia was since I was to young to understand life at it's collapse but I lived in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia and have family and friends in all 4. As for what could have been you can look at the Yugoslavia and how it grew it's industry and economy and military and compare it to the rest of the europe at that time and you will get a clear picture. There war should never have happened but it did and it will take a long time to heal.
