I dont think its inherently copaganda. I am not, and no one is, suggesting that sovciv lurk behind every traffic stop ready to jump out and kill police. I am not advocating for some dumb fuck Dave Grossman "warrior mindset" nonsense, and I do recognize that policing, day to day, is not as inherently dangerous as other professions that are much more mundane. Or shit, even just being born black is probably more dangerous overall than being a cop, largely because of cops and the deep systemic issues your comment adresses. I also dont think your wrong about these issues being blown up by bad actors like police unions in order to justify violence and continuation of incredibly flawed and broken problems. The institution of policing has DEEP DEEP DEEP fucking problems.

HOWEVER cops NOT being trained in how to recognize a potentially lethal threat like sovciv will get people killed. Not just cops. Sovcivs have deep connections to other systemic issues in the united state, white identity, white separatism, Christian nationalism and identity, militias, boogaloos and the like. If we ignore it, like we did with far right extremism post 9-11, it will grow and become a bigger issue.

It is not helpful to dismiss the recognition of an issue out of hand because you dislike the party recognizing it. Its not just DHS and the cops who are saying this is an issue. Southern Poverty Law has been watching sovciv for a while and recognize them as a terrorist threat as well as hatewatch and several other organizations that track extremism. So, I dont think that recognizing sovcivs as a very real problem is unjustified, nor is training to deal with the threat.
