Out of the shadows: The real LAD, and why he matters

He spent a night trying to sweet talk me and a friend into making a film for him that would have revealed who he was (a sort of day in the life of LAD thing). I was initially up for the idea but as the night progressed and he made some slightly rude comments toward my (at the time) gf, things got kind of awkward/uncomfortable, he tried to play it off as just being a 'cheeky chap' sort of thing but didn't really land it. My gf was sort of off with him for the rest of the night then.

When I told him I liked LAD he beamed and began slaggin the fuck out of PUL/fleggers and kind-of-sort-of-a-little-bit extended it to include northern protestants in general (not knowing my friend was a protestant), and then backtracking to insist he doesn't actually care about anything along sectarian lines anyway and he was just messing and it was all in good humour. From that point my friend was kind of off with him for the rest of the night, although my friend never actually really liked him in the first place because he despises local politics in general.

The night was punctuated with his half-cocky-half-condescending attitude and you can tell he thinks he's great. I found myself sort of trying to maintain a positive atmosphere amongst my now alienated companions and laughing off a lot of stuff because I was initially interested in the idea and thought there'd be a good sizeable audience for it. In retrospect though, kind of glad it didn't work out. Put me off of LAD a bit.

Some of their content is still pretty funny though.
