Overcoming age prejudice

I just had a conversation with a friend about the same thing recently. They'll never respect you because of your age but they will respect you if you are stern and establish boundaries. You should separate yourself from those who see you as the easygoing friend type. Otherwise you will get taken for a ride time and time again.

For example, I was 16 when my dad left me to run one of his companies for the summer. Nearly everyone tried to run over me and one guy showed up to work late and high on drugs. He shrugged it off and told me he'd introduce me to his niece. I told him he has fired and to clean out his locker. From there on out people they didn't see my age but instead someone who was serious about the job. If people undermine you they've gotta go as it only takes one rotten apple to sour the barrel.
