I own a home brew supply store. I teach people how to make beer, wine, mead, soda, and pretty much any fermented product on premises. I also sell everything you need to make alcohol at home.

I destroyed my shoulder when I was 12ish. I was playing football and took a head to the arm which dislocated my shoulder. From that point on I could dislocate it when ever I wanted, like at partied, to gross out my mom or girlfriend. That all did more damage and by the time I got it checked out the joint was done. The first surgery was thermal abrasion surgery, it was supposed to be less invasive but it ruined my ligaments or tendons which ever is in there. There second surgery was to correct the first. The third was to re-tighten the joint because my junkie step sister yanked it out of socket. The fourth was to re tighten and reattach my labrum. The fifth was pretty much a replacement of everything except bone.

When I first opened it was high alcohol, everything had to be at least 10% or it wasn't real beer. That tapered off into lets throw the craziest shit in the beer. How about a cucumber pepper lemon lime, sweet pickle sour dough bread bacon cinnamon chia tea IPA weissen lager. I did not like that trend. It lead to a lot of very expensive shitty homebrew.

Now, everyone is opening a brewery and their house beer is a super hopped IPA. Don't get me wrong, I love IPA's but how about a good brown ale? Or a nice clean Pale ale.

I work everyday 11-7 except sunday I work noon to 3. My wife hates my hours. I have two kids, both too young to work here and my wife takes care of them. Our son is Autistic so that in and of itself is a full time job. I often help customers out outside of work, and I guess that is like being on call. I won't go out later than say 9 and won't be available until after 8am. I really don't have much free time. I have one guy who will watch the store if I need him to. But I have only had two days off since I opened. The last shoulder surgery I had I was in work 3 hours late and I worked the day I had my vasectomy. I actually moved four pallets of 55# sacks 44 bags per pallet the day of the vasectomy.

I would say brewing is my life. It has its pros and cons. It is a fun job, but being the guy responsible for paying the bills sucks. Also I almost never have any beer anymore. I went from drinking a beer a night before I opened, to being a borderline alcoholic for the first two years, to now maybe a beer a month, maybe even every two months.
