Parents of Reddit, what mistake did you make raising your child that you can see manifest in them as an adult?

This is my opinion but one mistake my parents did was just not communicating properly with me, or with each other. My parents divorced when I was barely a year and my mom was on the other side of the country with multiple offenses under her name. The setup was I lived with my father during the year and visited mom during the summer.

Of course as I grew older, I got more frustrated because often I was just left out of information that would had been nice to know like my mom having warrants for her (found out by watching her get arrested in front of me), my sister not being fully mine (dad kicked her out without explanation), or that dad was even getting married (I think I was 12 and he just disappeared and came back, but step is nice).

But what sucks more is the sometimes oversharing or often emotional dependency my parents have on me. I had to be the first to find out all my family scandals. I had to find out my dad had been cheating (details too), my brother having an pregnancy with a girl my age, etc and of course, who to go to for advice as if I want to know how my already screwed up family is feeling today about today'so scandal (I'm only 17)
