Your argument rests on Watkins being worth our entire receiving core and no matter how you try to bend this towards the will of the free market that argument does not fly at all. To further insist that this is true is to take a nihilist stance on the real value of players here. Market demanded that people keep buying real estate related stocks at a AAA rating during the financial crisis when they weren’t worth shit. Taking less money in order to benefit the team is the opposite of selfishness. Sure within existential philosophical terms we all live in the aesthetic and do what pleases us but when it comes to money and take less of it to benefit the team that is the opposite of selfishness. Watkins is just getting paid and that is selfishness. That’s not an assumption that is what is happening.

Only the rich have fought socialism in America. We were founded by rich slave owners but when shit hit the fan and push came to shove we came out with the new deal, workers unions and civil rights. My argument is on the effectiveness of a system where there is much more balance and equality especially where money and talent is concerned. It isn’t a perfect analogy but I think it’s a good one as to why this team works so well.
