Pensando en Regresar a Mexico

Sorry to answer you in English, but it's my first language and I'm guessing that you're fluent. I'm a U.S.-born Mexican-American currently working in Mexico City. I can understand it must be really tempting for you to come here. I don't know exactly how it works, but my understanding is that it's hard to get into the university of your choice here. There is a lot of competition and it might be difficult to transfer your U.S. education to a school here. Secondly, as someone else pointed out, what is your plan for living here while you are in school? Do you have family here? Life is not easy here. There is a lot of competition for jobs; wages are low. People survive because they have family to share costs with. There is a good chance the laws will change in the U.S., but then again, it may take a long time for things to really change. There are states where people in your situation qualify for instate tuition. The tuition your talking about is on the high end. There are community colleges where you could work on your pre-reqs at an affordable price. There are other public schools where the cost wouldn't be so high. Unless you have a strong support system in Mexico, and you've already figured out how to get into the school of your choice here, I'd encourage you to explore all your options where you are. Being close to your family is important. If you were to leave them, there's a really good chance you'd not be able to see them again for a long time. The job you have now is not the only option. Look for other ways to get the skills you want to have and look into setting up your own business with a taxpayer ID. Get in touch with organizations helping "dreamers" like you.

I don't mean to discourage you from coming to Mexico if that's what you think is best. But, I have to say that there are some really wonderful advantages to being in the U.S. Life is hard here and, yes, the violence is a real threat. It's different here. I hope things improve in Mexico, truly, but there is a lot that needs to be done, still.
