Pentagon awards L3Harris $40 mln anti-drone weapon systems contract (14 VAMPIRES)

This war has proven you need serious semi cheap anti drone technology in the future or you are screwed. Spending $25k is a lot cheaper than a million for other missiles. That $400 drone can spot a piece of equipment worth millions and assist in destroying it. Also it's not only spotter drones that are the problem, you have Lancets and Shahed drones destroying a lot of expensive equipment and infrastructure.

These weapons can gain valuable field experience in Ukraine and while the initial cost is high per missile with that funding the production process can be streamlined eventually and they will get cheaper. If it's successful it will gain a lot of international sales and that will again drive the cost per missile down over time. This isn't just something for Ukraine, it's an investment into developing cheap anti drone technology overall.
