People dislike you when they can’t manipulate you.

Yep, had one of these in my last job. She was a top performer and was always putting other people down to lift herself up. One particular habit she had was approaching new people on the team and telling them things like, “I’ll get you fired,” or “you’ll never be as good as me.” When I started at the company she humiliated me in front of my co-workers by stating outright that I did drugs every day (I do not). The next day I pulled her aside privately and told her not to do that to me again. For the next 3 years I worked there, she never got over it. Openly hated me, excluded me from things, talked about me behind my back, tried to steal my friends away from me. I always treated her with kindness, but a general lack of interest, and I think that angered her more.

Weirdest thing was, every once in a while she’d go through this phase where she’d try to be friends with me. After a day or two of trying, she’d go back to hating me again. It was fine.
