The education is there for those who want it. Unfortunately they don’t want it. Unlike normal parents who can be fined or even jailed for their children’s non-attendance, none of this seems to apply to the traveller community.

It’s one thing to blame education for crime when there are few if any schools (like in some remote areas of third world countries) but there is no excuse for lack of education when it is freely available to all.

If the authorities pursued this group of people as fiercely as they pursue every other citizen then things would start to change. If they were forced to send their kids to school under the threat of unlimited fines and inprisonment then in a few generations this argument would be null and void.

However there is no chance of this happening with the bunch of cowards who are in power at the moment. They are so scared of upsetting this ‘community’ that there is no hope whatsoever that the current situation will ever change.

They should be ashamed of themselves.
