People who grew up with strict parents: what was their most unreasonable rule?

Awww man...I gotta tell you guys, from the perspective of someone with a jamaican Mom...I'm not even sure if I have a proper definition of "reasonable" rules judging from my reaction to this thread.

So many carribeans parents pretty much think you're a perpetual second class citizen until you die. My Mom didn't allow me to go over to a friends house -- ever -- she thought they were all iniquitous sinners that would teach me to do drugs and god knows what else.

Let's see...I mean it would have been pretty much unthinkable for me or sisters to come home late unless I was studying in the library...to the point where I'm not sure my Mom felt a need to enforce a curfew. But later on in our college years when we started being a bit more rebellious (or just normal lol) I think my Mom's curfew was 10-11pm at the time. Lol I should mention both my sisters at the time were A students and had jobs they were using to pay their way through college.

Ughhh, I could also only watch the best shows after my Mom had fallen to sleep. "The senses are the gateway to the soul" so my Mom tried to keep us away from fiction featuring or promoting the occult or anything bad. Lol that's everything from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Friends depending on the episode (Idk Rachel discussing sleeping with someone she hasn't known since childhood). Oh right, this also means I couldn't have read Harry Potter, or if I did, I'd have needed to hide it like porn.

Which is funny, because I read a lot of science fiction/fantasy at the time. But I couldn't read Harry Potter because it was ingrained in popular culture to the point, even my Mom knew what it was about. Even today, for some reason I have this illogical negative assocation with that series.

Ummm, no video games, although eventually I did get a gameboy. Which she broke a few years later when I didn't study for a math test. ABSOLUTELY no violent games...that includes Call of Duty and other games that don't shore gore or blood.

Lol and I'll end by relating my first trip to Six Flags. We went there with my Aunt and her kids, my Mom had work. I remember before my Aunt picked us up, my Mom sat us down to let us know how we should behave. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES were we to ride any roller coasters, because my Mom read from an 18th century, the shocks and reverbations of such can move the organs out of their natural place.

So we go to Six Flags and obviously the first ride my Aunt wanted to go on was a roller coaster. My sisters and I explained why it wasn't happening my Aunt just looked at us. Then she said "If you guys don't go on that roller coaster....I'll never bring you anywhere again."

At the time I thought she was being mean. Lol now I know she was trying to give me a day off.
